Smart Tech Is Helping A NYC Hospital Deliver Better Care
In a bid to sustain hospital operations while limiting potential exposure to the coronavirus, New York health system Mount Sinai will install more than 100 Google Nest smart home cameras in patient rooms.
These smart cameras will help healthcare workers to visit their patients remotely and use two-way communication to assess the symptoms and vital signs. This will also decrease the need for personal protective equipment (PPE), which is already short in supply during this pandemic. Google has created consoles, specifically designed for this situation. Besides Mount Sinai, other hospitals are also looking at ways to make operations and treatments more efficient and safer. Minimizing patient-doctor contact can go a long way in making treatments safer.
Smart home products are proving to be extremely useful in healthcare. Since they are designed keeping in mind the hearing-, visual-, or mobility-impaired patients, it works great for hospitals. To help, Amazon and Google have started developing customized products for hospitals to help them deal with the pandemic better. However, adoption can be hindered by budget restrictions and legacy connectivity systems.
