INSTEON transmits both over radio and powerline. X10 transmits solely on powerline and therefore inherently less reliable. The Hub supports X10 as a way to help existing X10 users in migrating to a better technology (INSTEON). X10 signaling is highly dependent upon the ?cleanliness? of the individuals electrical environment. X10 is susceptible to power line noise (other electronics pushing noise interference onto the house power). It is also susceptible to attenuation (signal sucking). The user must perform some basic troubleshooting to determine what electronic devices could be causing interference (usually this is a sequence of unplugging appliances one at a time while sending test signals after each removal). We offer noise filters to reduce the impact of electronics on the power line.
