The Echo Loop Is Amazon’s Latest Attempt At Smart Wearable Tech In The Form Of A Ring
Last month, Amazon announced a bunch of devices, including five new Echo smart speakers, new Alexa commands, more Ring smart home security, smart glasses called Echo Frames, and the new Echo Loop.
Echo Loop puts Amazon’s digital Alexa assistant on your body in a way that’s different than the more anticipated earbuds route Amazon announced with the new Echo Buds. Earbuds, after all, aren’t usually worn all day the way a ring is.
With this, you can use Alexa for all your usual tasks and for operating your smart home. Echo Loop has an action button that you can use to wake up the device with one press. The two microphones there will listen to your commands. There is also a vibrating haptic engine for alerts and notifications.
Since there is no display, when the ring vibrates, you can check your app for more details. While it does look and feel futuristic, its use is not very clear. Regarding wearables, except for fitness bands and smartwatches, nothing has really gone mainstream.
With Echo Loop, you can use Alexa and its skills anywhere. Coming to the privacy part, Amazon does keep a copy of your interaction with Alexa. However, there is now an option to not let Amazon collect or simply set it up to delete after a certain period of time. It is also completely water-resistant.
You can use the Echo Loop to make phone calls, but since the microphones are not very big, you would have to hold it near your mouth and ears, making it not very user-friendly.
