The Futuristic Apple Smart Ring Could Come With Gesture Control, According To Patent
The Apple smart ring is in the works. It is believed that it could use gesture controls which could allow the user to point your finger bearing the ring towards another device to connect to it and later, communicate.
A previous patent indicates that it would come with a tiny touchscreen, biometric sensors, and Siri. However, the new patent tells us that users will be able to use gesture controls to connect Apple Ring to the device the wearer gestures towards.
Users can use it to change volume, monitor temperature and light brightness, work the user interface and more. The best part here is that Apple Ring could be used to work with your smart home devices and is not limited to only Apple devices.
Commands could be transmitted using NFC, which is already being used for Apple Pay. There are wilder potentials nested in the patent, too, like using the Apple Ring to send messages to a ‘second user’ with their own Apple Ring – think the Apple Watch 5’s Walkie Talkie app, but with feedback (presumably through the wearable’s haptics via vibration).
It looks like the Apple Ring has been designed to work as a smaller version of the Apple Watch. It is a way of allowing the user to control each device in an intuitive manner. Since it works by using NFC, you will have to be somewhere nearby. As of now, this is just a patent. A lot of things could change by the time it becomes a full-fledged product.
