The “Third Connected Era” Will Launch Greater Expectations From Consumers Of What A Smart Home Should Be.
Marketers are yet to see the impact of the third connected era on consumer behaviour, but the changes will be profound when they finally arrive, according to Starcom’s Future of Connected Living research project.
They believe that 2019 is the start of the “Third Connected Era”. Digital businesses, such as Uber, Airbnb, and Netflix were the product of the “Second Connected Era”. In the third era, we will get to see platforms built based on IoT, AI, and voice tech. Increasing consumer expectations are just a way of fueling the developers. The research also found that while 90% of the companies believe that their customer experience is advanced, less than 50% of the users rate them that way. Moving to connected devices is expected to significantly improve expectations.
The third era will work with work/life balance, family and relationships, prediction of choice, and health. AI, IoT, and other techs can help with admin, shopping, travel, finance, and transport. This world will be managed by an intelligent agent for a seamless experience, rather than humans. Interaction with home systems is expected to differ widely as well. While voice will become more significant and central, the visual aspect will still be important. Lastly, the research established that users are willing to share data to receive personalized services.
