This Smart Dog Collar Lets You Monitor Your Dog’s Well-Being, Set Fitness Goals, And Helps You Find Them If They Go Missing
Future Tense is a partnership between New America, Slate, and Arizona State University which studies up and coming society, technologies, and public policies. In the series of "Should This Thing Be Smart?", Justin Peters explores a smart device and tries to decide if it is good enough to be used.
The Link AKC Smart Collar is a Bluetooth-enabled dog collar that uses GPS technology to track your pet’s whereabouts and help you find it when it goes astray. More than just a homing beacon, though, the collar pairs with a mobile app that lets you monitor your dog’s well-being, set its fitness goals and record the “adventures” you have together.
This collar also lights up when it is dark, making it easier for you to keep an eye out. These collars come in two models, the standard leather one and the sporty nylon one.
Unfortunately, according to Wirecutter, this collar is not the greatest dog tracking devices available. It is unreliable, expensive, and the battery life is horrible. You will also have to choose a monthly service plan to keep the collar active.
