Timing Is Everything! Facebook Puts Halt On Release Of Smart Home Speaker
Facebook’s smart home speaker will not be unveiled on the F8 conference scheduled on May 1, thanks to the Cambridge Analytica scandal over its privacy practices. Facebook is delaying its launch of its connected speaker with video-chat capabilities and digital-assistant.
Interestingly, today’s report mentions focus-group testing already showed that a Facebook-branded device in the living room sparked concern. It sounds as if the testing was done before the Cambridge Analytica story broke.
Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook, apologized to the users and said that he was ready to testify. Facebook is also being investigated by the US regulators. Facebook’s smart home speaker is designed to have a 15-inch touchscreen and a camera. Facebook has to overcome its current state – where ‘deleteFacebook’ is trending before it can compete with Google Home, HomePod, and Amazon Echo.
