Why Are More Users Placing Smart Speakers In Their Bedrooms?
A recent survey, Smart Speaker Consumer Adoption Report 2020, find that bedrooms are the most popular place for a smart speaker, mainly due to consumers using morning and evening routines. While the living room was the most popular place at the beginning due to easier entertaining, kitchen tops the chart for smart displays.
If a user has multiple smart speakers, one is sure to have its place in the bedroom and if a person only owns one device, chances are that it would be placed in the bedroom. As much as two-thirds of consumers claim that they have their speakers in the bedroom. There are statistics that suggest that users with a smart device in the bedroom are usually frequent users of the device for media, news, and more, including apps like Google Actions and Alexa Skills.
Smart home device use showed an even wider gap. Smart speaker users with a device in the bedroom are 52% more likely to be daily active users of smart home solutions. They are also 37% more likely to have a smart home device in their home.
The fact that most users have installed smart speakers in their bedroom indicates that privacy concerns about these smart devices are not specific in nature. It looks like users believe that these devices are safe, or that the risks are low, or that the protection offered by the manufacturer is reliable.
