Will High-Speed 5G Networks Create Explosion Of Smart Home Device Ownership?
By 2023, it is believed that 5G networks will carry one-fifth of the total mobile data traffic, as per Ericsson. The number of connected smart devices is expected to increase exponentially as high-speed 5G networks come into the picture.
The forecast, made in the Swedish company’s 2018 mobility report, sees the market for Internet of Things devices growing to 3.5 billion units by 2023, five times the 700 million IoT devices currently in use. This doubles the company’s forecast from November.
Patrik Cerwall, the person in charge of industry marketing at Ericsson, said that the next-generation wireless networks are a great incentive for growth. The reports also talk about the first 5G network’s launch this year.
5G, the popular acronym for fifth-generation network technology, is supposed to give a speed that is 10 times faster than the currently existing 4G. It is expected to be a reliable platform for upcoming technologies, such as pollution sensors and health monitors which make use of mobile networks in order to transmit data.
