With The IoT, Smart Devices, And Ambient Computing Our Connected Homes Will Become Truly “Smart”
Where the Internet of Things (IoT) can be used to describe the smart home and how devices within it connect together, ambient computing is more about what happens once these devices are connected, and what they can learn from each other.
Instead of directing devices, ambient computing refers to when the devices learn and think for themselves. This tech is paving the way for a future where our smart home will run on its own, depending on our needs and other factors. Samsung has been working hard on its Project Ambient and is working out how to place small listening devices across the entire house.
Without voice assistants like Alexa, Google Assistant, and Siri, it is difficult to visualize ambient computing in smart homes. Smartwatches or fitness trackers could also learn to work as needed, offering better input to the users. Ambient computing in the car is also possible as it could come up with alternative routes, play music according to how your day went, and even suggest some nice meal ideas for dinner!
While most of the ideas mentioned here are still theoretical, there is no doubt that it will come to being someday soon, at the rate tech is advancing. Gathering data from different sources is the main trouble here. Anywhere where you see an internet-connected device, ambient computing can be seen there.
