2020 Was The Year Of Smart Home Tech With 1 Of 4 Making Their First Smart Device Purchase
A recent survey found that 1 in 4 Americans have recently purchased their first smart home device in 2020. Though this figure sounds surprising, this was mostly due to the pandemic that forced people to stay indoors for most of the year.
In 2020 despite financial struggles both nationwide and worldwide the United States was able to increase or sustain its spending on tech.
For example, over 75% of citizens were able to increase their spending or maintain it compared to 2019. The survey was carried out on 1,000 adults between 18 years of age or older.
From the results, we know close to 85% of the respondents purchased a smart home device of some sort in the year 2020. Of those 85% are the 1 in 4 are currently living with their first smart home tech purchased last year. In addition, 78% of these buyers also mentioned that they use their smart home device at least once a day. It was also noted that younger generations were more likely to buy a smart home device compared to the older generation. Most of the adults who did buy smart home tech focused on automation compared to security. Smart TVs were one of the most-purchased items. 55% of adults bought a new smart TV in 2020. Despite this 40% of adults say they bought a security camera or alarm system last year. Looks like the trend of investing in smart home devices is more than likely to continue!
