After A Rough Start In The Smart Speaker Race Does Apple’s HomePod Have A Place?
It’s been six months since HomePod has been released. Though it does not have great features like Alexa, it still has its uses.
I was impressed immediately by its sound quality, but it was nearly impossible to ignore the gaping lack of AirPlay 2. Sure, one HomePod sounded great, but the 2-second lag with AirPlay and lack of stereo/multi-room support was impossible to overlook.
With Sonos’ promising support for AirPlay 2, is the price of HomePod really justified? It is also able to offer more diversity to the consumers. However, there are places HomePod shone. Experiencing stereo HomePod is amazing, though it is an expensive experience.
While HomePod needs a lot of work, maybe with time, it can get better. Though the integration of HomePod into the Apple ecosystem is seamless, the friendliness factor outside of this is rather weak. While Sonos offers the users a more diverse range of speakers, can Apple also benefit by doing the same? While rumors are out that Apple is planning the release of a cheaper HomePod, there is actually no evidence to support this. Since stereo HomePod pairs are something worth the experience, Apple could maybe offer a discount for a pair to increase HomePod’s adoption.
