Amazon Creates Building Blocks For The Future Of Smart Devices With Their Latest Alexa-Enabled API
With the latest update to Amazon Smart Home Skill API, more capabilities than ever can be seen. The three features are Alexa.ToggleController, Alexa.RangeController, and Alexa.ModeController. The new additions were designed to control classes of behaviour of the devices.
Indeed, the three new capabilities do not try to model some kind of abstract specialised device, such a lock, a cooking appliance, etc. Rather, they model generic capabilities that are common to devices with different functions.
The new additions provide extensions to already present capabilities like Alexa.Cooking and Alexa.BrightnessController. The API lets developers link multiple events in the same device. A change created to help skills work well with new and complex gadgets to combine the interaction model with a Smart Home Skill. This offers benefits to the users who do not have to enable different skills for the same gadget. As of now, the Smart Home API is available only as a preview. Developers wanting to use it will have to enroll in the program.
