The tech giant introduced a new technology called “Amazon Sidewalk” which will be available for all the Amazon smart home devices. With Amazon Sidewalk, the company aims to create a local neighborhood of smart home devices which are sharing information with each other to create a more secure neighborhood. They use low-energy Bluetooth and radio signals to communicate with each other. Most Amazon devices will have the support for Amazon Sidewalk, but the range will depend on the devices.
A few advantages of this technology are that they give an extended range, one can expect fewer smart home outages, better home connection, simplified setup, and more. Amazon has promised that no more than 500MB of data will be used from one single household each month.
Amazon is committed to making Sidewalk as safe as possible. Sidewalk’s very low-energy signals are not able to transfer any pieces of personal data.
Consumers can also turn off the feature at any point by switching it off in the Amazon Alexa app.
