Amazon’s Ambitions Include Enterprise And Smart Home Hardware Initiatives
Amazon’s recent announcements tell us about the company’s ambition. Amazon Web Services is viewing the opportunity of selling its own switches. Switches are hardware controllers that let devices in a network communicate with each other.
An integrated enterprise hardware/Web services model could be a persuasive combination, while also providing a more convincing enterprise play for Amazon’s previously consumer-focused technologies, such as its Alexa-powered devices, which are increasingly developing enterprise-focused skills.
Amazon is also planning on setting up an Alexa-powered smart television with expanded TV service, possibly including BBC’s iPlayer and Netflix. With Fire Cube Alexa-powered set-top box, Amazon let it know that all its hardware will revolve around Alexa in the future. It has also tried to make conversations more natural with Alexa, such as removing the trigger word. Amazon has continued to diversify into content creation, deliveries, main street shopping, and premium subscription services. It has an eye on the insurance and banking sector as well.
Apart from this, Amazon is also developing a healthcare team which will again use Alexa. Vesta is Amazon’s Alexa-powered domestic robots that come with cameras and sensors to detect carbon monoxide, detect smoke, and excess heat.
