Apple’s HomePod Increasing Voice Functions Including The Ability To Make Calls
HomePod is likely to get a few new features like the ability to receive and make calls when the speaker is connected to the iPhone. The software update also brings forth the ability to locate the users iPhone. HomePod’s adoption had some barriers, including the fact that Apple’s focus was on sound quality instead of on functionality.
While Amazon’s Alexa can handle a laundry list of tasks for users including shopping via voice, Siri powered HomePods have limited voice functions. On top of that, they carry a hefty price tag.
It looks like Apple may come up with a cheaper version of HomeKit in May. It could cost about $200. The device may be released in different designs and colors. Apple has a working partnership with MediaTek who will create the lower-end devices. With Beats, Apple will be able to create a lower-end speaker without harming the higher-end one.
Though the market is ripe with opportunities for the speakers, Apple has not taken benefit. Amazon is expected to maintain its position as the market leader with 50% of all the installed devices being Amazon’s this year. Google Home will account for about 30% of the market. However, HomePod represents only 4% of all the installed smart devices this year.
