Around 41% Of U.S. Consumers Now Own A Smart Speaker, Up From 21.5% In 2017
Amazon Alexa was very popular this holiday season and is said to be one of the most downloaded apps! The smart speaker’s adoption hit an all-time high where 41% of the US customers owned one such device, this trend mostly driven by tech advancements in Google Home and Alexa devices.
A forecast study says that Alexa might generate as much as $19 billion by 2021 in revenue. This is mainly because Alexa keeps getting new updates, such as Alexa Guard, routines, email integration, and more. Alexa’s third-party app ecosystem also expanded in 2018 with the Alexa skills reaching 60,000 in number!
While not as popular as Alexa, Google Home also saw a huge increase in the sale of its devices. However, the revenue received by Google Home is not as much as the one Amazon Alexa is receiving. The reports suggest that in the future, the numbers might tell a different story. Today, when we combine all of Google’s products like Nest, Pixel, and Chromecast, the company is in pretty good standing.
This is the first year the analysts asked about Apple’s HomePod in the consumer survey, and they found its share of the U.S. smart speaker market remains small.
