Did You Know Alexa Can Now Be Used As A Security Camera?
Amazon Echo Show has a new feature that is going to make its rivals a bit jealous. Users will now be able to use the device as a security camera when required. There is a setting on the device called Home Monitoring and it transforms your smart display into a security camera. Users will be able to check on people, pets, or anything else one would wish to.
Plus, if you have the latest Echo Show 10, you can not only view the camera feed, but you can pan the room left to right (although, unfortunately, not up and down).
With the latest updates, it looks like the older devices like Echo Show 5 and Echo Show 8 also have the Home Monitoring setting. For security reasons, this feature needs to be enabled from the device itself rather than by turning on a setting in the Amazon Alexa app. On the Settings page, you will have to enable Home Monitoring feature and follow the rest of the instructions. On the Settings page, there are two more options such as Video Delay and Audio Alert that come in handy in case of privacy issues. To check on your security camera, just open your Alexa app and tap Devices on the bottom menu, horizontally scroll the top menu and tap on Cameras, tap the Echo Show device whose camera you want to view, and the app will open the camera feed. Though this is not a full-blown feature of a security camera as the video is not recorded and there is also no quick and easy way to set up motion alerts, it still gives you an option for live stream!
