Does Google Really Have 10 Times As Many Smart Assistant Devices Than Amazon Alexa?
At the 2019 CES, Google announced that over a billion devices have access to Google Assistant while Amazon said more than 100 million Alexa devices are out there. The Google Assistant debuted on Google Pixel phone in 2016 initially and soon became available on a variety of devices. Later came smart speakers like Google Home and the third-party devices from Sony, Panasonic, JBL, LG, and more.
For TVs, there’s both Sony and LG displays with Android TV and the Assistant built in, set-top boxes from Nvidia and Xiaomi, and even a plan for smart soundbars.
Google Assistant is available in Nest cameras, Wear OS devices, Chrome OS devices, and more.
Google Assistant is available for free download on iOS devices while it is built-in to Android devices. Alexa’s app is available on both platforms but it does not have the reach that Google has managed thanks to the default Android app.
Amazon is lagging behind in the fact that it does not have a strong presence in the smartphone market. However, despite the fact that Assistant comes built-in, not everyone sets it up and uses it. Google claims that the number of active users increased by 4 times last year. Alexa, however, still has the lead regarding presence in smart home devices.
