Google Assistant To Allow Integrations With Smart Home Doorbells
Google recently announced that it is open to offering manufacturers the option of integrating their smart home doorbell with Google Assistant. Since Google has always been selective with the companies that can integrate with their Assistant, this move was unexpected. The list of devices that can communicate with Google’s Assistant is occasionally updated with the latest getting added in July 2020. Google updated the list to reflect that developers can now create a smart doorbell that uses the Google Assistant API.
Doorbells can let people know someone is at the door. This device can send notifications and stream video if it has the corresponding capability.
According to the Google Assistant API document that have been provided on their website, doorbell manufacturers should be able to easily integrate a simple doorbell and even with a video as well. There is provision for a two-way communication system as well. The document also notes that the latency of the doorbell is expected to be less than 2 seconds (2000 ms) and have a reliability of over 97%.
