Google Nest 2 Home Device To Track Sleep And Body Activity In Bed
Google recently announced its latest generation of Google Nest device. The Google Nest Hub 2 will be able to track users’ body activity in bed to generate personalized sleep-tracking reports. With the radar-based scanning technology that has been embedded in the device, it will be able to detect movements, including coughing and snoring, as well as temperature and light changes. Though this new feature is being appreciated by many people, others are worrying about privacy.
Google said the new features had been “built with privacy in mind” – and the data collected would not be used to create personalized advertising.
Owners will also have the option to disable motion tracking and the microphone and delete stored data at any point. Any information gathered, through movement or audio, is processed locally on the device, but anonymous “sleep event data” is stored on Google’s cloud server which includes bedtimes, waketimes, coughing, and restfulness. If the option has been enabled, the Google Nest Hub 2 will be able to learn your sleeping habits over time and will also be able to suggest sleeping tips. The Google’s Soli radar can be used to snooze an alarm from a distance on the Nest Hub 2.
