Got You Paying Attention To Google’s Ambitions As A Smart Home Provider
The Google Home Hub contains plenty of shortcuts for common tasks, which is something you can find on the app as well along with a room-by-room breakdown of your smart home devices. This product was launched with a few third-party alternatives in 2018. When it initially launched, the Google Home was seen more as an entertainment product than as a smart hub. With the success of Amazon’s Echo models, Google jumped in as well.
But given that Google Home only launched with four smart-home partners and Alexa already worked with thousands, Google wasn’t yet ready to compete on that front and spent 2017 playing catch-up.
On the other side, Alexa won the CES 2017 without Amazon even being a formal part of the event.
Moving forward a year, things changed and suddenly, Google was more popular at the CES 2018. While the company did not release any Google-branded products, the line of smart displays with built-in Google Assistant made by third-party producers made the headlines. Google became a real competition to Amazon.
Google Assistant works with 5,000 devices while Amazon does so with 12,000 devices. Each company is trying to outdo the other which is good news for the consumers who are getting more features than ever in their devices!
