Just Like The Home Computer, Your Smart Device Security Can Be As Simple As Software Updates And Consistently Changing Passwords
Home of the Future, a six-video series produced by Curbed and The Verge is back with Season 2. The series follows the building of a prefab home in Texas that is designed with keeping in mind innovation and sustainability and using state-of-the-art technology. While smart devices like locks and cameras are designed for our protection, they themselves are vulnerable.
Nadir Izrael is the CTO and the co-founder of Armis Security, a firm that assesses and then fortifies computer systems. As soon as you connect the smart devices to the internet, they can get viruses. There is no protection for them.
According to Izrael, the best thing you can do to secure your devices is make them less of a target compared to other folks’ connected products.
This means that you have to follow basic protection measures like changing passwords, using two-factor authentication, and update software. Devices can track, learn, save data, and eventually, even predict what you are going to ask them next. The best thing you can do is to read the terms and conditions carefully before going ahead with anything.
