Latest Eve Aqua Smart Water Controller Update Enables Thread Protocol
Eve Systems, the smart home manufacturer, has recently announced the release of a new firmware update for one of their famous smart home devices – the Eve Aqua Smart Water Controller. The new release focuses on upgrading the protocol of the devices. With the Thread networking technology becoming popular among smart home devices, the update includes the option to enable the Thread protocol.
With Thread enabled, users can enjoy an extended range when a Thread device with router capabilities like Eve Energy is placed between Eve Aqua and a HomePod Mini.
According to Eve Systems, when compared to Bluetooth connectivity, Thread networking offers faster response times, greater reliability, and increased range. Thread is a component of the Connected Home over IP project (CHIP), which aims to build a unified connectivity protocol for the smart home and it is being backed by major companies such as Google, Amazon, and Apple.
To take advantage of Thread capabilities in the Eve Aqua, you must have the HomePod Mini (which is one of the few devices to have the support of Thread protocol) in the home. After installing the firmware update, the Eve Aqua will automatically switch to Thread in the background. Users can confirm that the Eve Aqua is utilizing Thread via the Eve for HomeKit app. Through HomeKit and the Eve for HomeKit app, users will be able to water on-demand, set default run times, create custom watering schedules, monitor usage, and enable a child lock to prevent accidental button presses.
