More Than A Power Tool Company, Black & Decker Entering The Smart Home Market With A Digital Assistant For Elderly
Black & Decker, the manufacturer of home appliances and power tools, have now stepped into the smart home arena. Pria, a video-based digital assistant, and Omni, the mesh Wi-Fi router, are two new products being developed by the company. Pria is specially designed to assist seniors live comfortably in their own homes while Omni was developed to leverage Pria’s work. However, Omni can also work on its own.
Pria is optimized for home healthcare for senior citizens and their caregivers. It is HIPAA compliant and made as non-invasive as possible. It helps the caregivers understand whether the user is having their tablets, doing their exercise etc. without placing any kinds of sensors in the house or having the user wear wearable devices. Pria can be summoned with the wake work and can dispense right on schedule about 28 doses of medicines. A facial recognition software makes sure that the right person takes the medicines.
Omni is a tri-band, whole-home Wi-Fi mesh router based on the Wi-Fi 5 standard (aka 802.11ac), supporting four spatial streams in each direction.
While it can be used alone, it is optimized to work with Pria. Pria Pods are Wi-Fi nodes designed to expand the range of the router. It can replace motion detectors and give an idea to the caregivers on their charge’s whereabouts.
