More Than Four Walls And A Roof, The Home Of The Future Will Change How We Use Energy, And Even How We Eat
Home of the Future is a 6-episode video series produced by Curbed and The Verge that follows the building of a prefab home in Texas. It is designed with the top technology and keeping in mind sustainability. Over the last half a year, the prefab home was built from scratch assembling prefab pieces in a workshop and adding smart products and solar power.
While tech and design are rapidly evolving, physical and cultural environments are not moving fast enough to keep up with the change. Even this kind of prefab building is far from becoming a popular form of residential construction.
Looking to the home of the more distant future, Addington believes the most radical change could come from eliminating the basic premise of having four walls and a door entirely.
It would be great if we could find a better and more efficient method to cool or heat our bodies instead of having to stay within a homogeneous area that costs just too much energy.
Texas-based futurist Anne Boysen is of the opinion that the future homes will also change the way we view food. From indoor growing systems to automated re-ordering when we’re running on low staple items.
