Nanoleaf Essentials Are The Latest In The Smart Light Niche With Lightstrips And Bulbs
Nanoleaf, the smart light company, has released its first series of more-standard smart lighting accessories and has named it Essentials.
The company has been known for its wall-mounted light panels, but now sees plenty of possibilities in offering other lights that can be part of a smart home system.
Users can purchase the A19 (screw-fixing) light bulb, the 2m lightstrip, or the 1m lightstrip expansion pack. The new products are compatible with Nanoleaf’s app, Apple HomeKit or Siri, and Google Assistant whereas Amazon Alexa is not supported at present. However, it is expected that support for Alexa will be released early next year.
Interestingly, they are the first smart lighting devices to support the new smart home protocol called Thread that is also inside Apple’s new HomePod mini. The protocol has been designed to ensure that there are low latency and low power. It also ensures that devices are able to communicate with each other even when there is no Wi-Fi. The lights can also be controlled via Bluetooth. They can be easily customized using the Nanoleaf app with customized colors. The lightstrip can be extended to a maximum of 10 meters with expansion packs.
