Netgear’s Unique Approach To Their Arlo Smart Doorbell
Netgear today introduced a new product category to its Arlo line of smart-home security devices — the Arlo Audio Doorbell and Chime. The Arlo Audio Doorbell is a battery-powered buzzer designed to replace your existing doorbell.
Netgear chose to go ahead with a different approach than Ring, Nest, and August.
The Arlo Audio Doorbell does not have a camera built-in. Instead, you have to enlist one of the Arlo cams that you can install separately near the front door. This way, you can keep an eye on your visitors. They are not mandatory but, if you are looking for video streaming, you will need one.
Arlo buzzer works in the following way. When you have a visitor at the door who presses the doorbell, you will get a notification on your phone. You can talk to the visitor on your phone via the microphones on your phone and on the doorbell. You can also activate a pre-recorded message if you don’t want to talk. With Arlo cam, you can see the live video feed as you are talking.
The Arlo Chime comes with a built-in siren which lets you know who’s at the door even if you don’t have your phone on you.
