New Startup Aims To Stop E-Waste Filling Up Our Landfills
Electronic waste has often resulted in a landfill and is one of the biggest problems the world is going to see in the future years to come. With the invention of smart home devices, this is going to further add to the burden of e-waste. With multiple smart home manufacturers announcing ceasing support for old devices, this is a cause of concern when the whole user base throws away these unsupported devices. They are likely to end up in a landfill. This is where Emplacement, a new startup, plays a role. In their tie-up with Tile, they help in recycling users’ used Tile trackers.
So when a Tile’s battery dies, the customer can go into the app and get the name of the nearest recycling center that will accept the old Tile.
Since this program turned out to be expensive, a new solution was to mail back the device in an envelope. This is just the start – there are more companies trying to get involved. Other ideas include the manufacturer giving a discount in exchange for their old devices that can be recycled. With IoT in the market already booming, something similar is the need of the hour.
