Online Smart Home Discussions Continue To Be Positive As Smart Device Sales Grow
Consumers are not only buying connect devices but also discussing the topic online. Smart homes have been in discussion since 2010 but they gained popularity by 2013. By 2017, there are over 250,000 posts on this. This survey by Crimson Hexagon contained millions of posts in English across Reddit, Tumblr, QQ, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and from various blogs and forums.
Much of the positive sentiment related to excitement about the growing IoT trends, home automation, design customization, integrated apps, seamless systems and nifty gadgets, according to the analysis.
The negative remarks from those who thought the smart homes were not really useful, had privacy concerns or were not happy with the price. Happiness was the dominating emotion which is now replaced with fear.
The components driving the smart home conversations are security, HVAC, lighting, voice assistants, and entertainment. Discussions about voice assistant have also increased since 2013, with 20% of the online discussion featuring this topic now. Light received 93% (the highest) positive comments and security received 77% (the lowest). The users say they are looking to adopt smart homes because of convenience, futuristic nature, and energy efficiency.
