Protect Your Smart Home By Applying Simple Network Security Policies
As October is National Cyber Security Awareness month, it is high time that we talk about securing the devices in our home with hardened network security policies, just as with offices.
About one-third of U.S., U.K. and German companies have more than 1,000 shadow, or unsanctioned, Internet of Things (IoT) devices connected to their network on a typical day.
There are 33% that are smart kitchen devices and 46% of these are smart TVs. The impact of a breach of personal devices can be quite dramatic – whether it can at an individual or at an enterprise level.
In order to protect your network better, make sure that all the software is updated. Create a unique password and change the default ones. Make sure the security policy of your home devices have VPN and two-factor authentication. Implement a zero-trust network. This network form will not authenticate unless it makes sure the user has permission.
Organization-wide security awareness needs to be implemented to create a strong defense. Educating the employees will make them aware and they will also look out for potential threats.
