Ready For Prefab Smart Homes? Amazon Is Investing In A Construction Company Known For Sustainability And Smart Home Tech.
Amazon has entered into its first venture in prefab construction by investing in Plant Prefab, a company dedicated to sustainable construction. The company recently launched their new range of Alexa-enabled smart home devices. Amazon is already working with Lennar to pre-install Alexa in all the new homes by them. Amazon’s primary focus at the moment seems to be on constructing houses with an Alexa presence. Plant Prefab and Amazon are planning to create smart houses that are not only sustainable but also one that is accessible to the customers.
The first round of funding is $6.7 million which included participation from Obvious Ventures and some private investors.
This will support expansion and talent acquisition for the company, including senior hires and new factories operating on the company’s patented Plant Building System.
Plant Prefab is among the first home factories in the country that places emphasis on sustainable materials, processes, construction, and operations. Most of their construction is LEED certified. They claim that their way of design and construction saves as much as 50% of the time and 10-25% of the cost. They have partnered with top designers and architects in the industry. The company built the LEED Platinum home which is an award-winning set of prefabricated homes.
