Shining A Light On IKEA’s Calculated Emergence Into The Smart Home Market
Just last year, Ikea became a smart home company with its very first product – connected light. Now, it has come up with a set of smart blinds, Fyrtur, that can be handled via voice commands or a remote.
Since Ikea was already in the business of producing these products, the company decided to go a step ahead and make it smart. Ikea waited and learned from their first products and took in the reaction from the people. However, they acknowledge that one can never predict the bugs or issues that can suddenly crop up.
By moving ahead slowly and steadily, Ikea is gathering more ground in the smart home market. The smart blinds are designed to work with all the three assistants.
Ikea’s store model also gives it an advantage over the others. The in-store rep can help the customers with advice on the various products which could help with increasing adoption.
By selling products that integrate third-party voice assistants, Ikea inherits their problems. If a Fyrtur fails because of Alexa, that customer complaint likely gets lobbed at Sweden regardless.
With thoughtful products designed to make life easier and safer, Ikea’s Home Smart lineup is reaching new heights.
