Smart Cars Bring Us One Step Closer To Our Envisioned Smart Future
The smart home world is expanding at an exponential pace. Cars are now the next in line to be ‘smartened up’. Connected cars can now communicate with other smart devices around them. Tech giants such as Google and Amazon are working with top automobile players in the industry to integrate cars with smart home devices. One of the earliest adopters of this technology was Mercedes-Benz. Mercedes-Benz has been working with Tier 1 supplier Bosch to pair the MBUX voice assistant with Bosch Smart Home.
In-vehicle voice commands can control everything from smart plugs and thermostats to shutters, motion detectors and light controls.
Cars can even communicate with sensors that check whether a door or window in the house is shut properly. The driver can use the ‘Hey Mercedes’ prompt to ask the lights to be turned on in the garage or the blinds in a room to be lowered or raised for privacy. Toyota has also been trying out such integrations. Though this will make life easier for consumers, the concern of privacy and security keeps growing. Hackers will now have a new target to attack. The technology that it is being built upon must be secure enough to withstand such attacks. Though for now, we might see such smart integration only with luxury cars, this seems to be a possibility for lower-end cars as well.
