The Amazon 3rd Generation Echo Dot Got Bigger, Better, And Is Still Under 50 Bucks.
For years Amazon has been on a mission to become the ultimate company to control your smart home. To achieve that, it developed a smart speaker to fit in every room for smart home control. Filling your home with Alexa devices, the Echo Dot has become a common choice. Well, the older versions had two major snags; they were a bit quiet and a little ugly. The Amazon Echo Dot 3rd generation addresses both issues along with the delivery of an improved smart speaker that is perfect for home controlling and a little bit of radio or music.
So, What Is New With The Echo Dot 3rd Gen?
Gone is the plain case of the older version as the new 3rd gen has a textured material case that gives it a close resemblance with the Google Home Mini. It has a vast improvement from the previous generation which makes it blend excellently with your home decor rather than sticking out as an apparent bit of tech. There are now three choices of finish to further extend your selection options.
At the top, you will find the same control as the previous Echo Dot that is the volume buttons, activation button in case you don’t want the Dot to pick your voice and a mute mic button to stop Alexa from listening in. While the manual controls are useful, you will not need them most of the time. The power adaptor has been in the Echo Dot 3rd generation, and it is no longer USB-powered. The reason behind the change is that the new version needed more power. The only downside is that you cannot power the speaker through a handy port at the back of your TV or set-top box.
A 3.5mm audio output on the rear is put for you so that you may hook the Dot up to a stereo for a more powerful sound. However, on an honest note, if you want to do this, the Echo Dot 2nd Gen –the cheaper one would do a better job. When comparing the size, the New Echo dot is relatively more extensive than the old one, but there’s pretty much nothing to worry in the size as it is not bulky and is easy to set up at any position wherever you want.
Echo Show Is Easy To Use, And Easy To Set Up
Simply plug in the 3rd Gen Echo Dot. Connect to your internet using Echo Dot. And then just ask Alexa for music, weather, news, videos, and more. It’s easy as 1-2-3 🙂
Some New Features Of The Third Gen Echo Dot
Design: Amazon is taking a belated approach to product design. The original Echo Show and Echo Dot were both utilitarians at best with some hard-plastic shells and sort of generic with a budget factory kind of finish. It took an effort from Google’s Home mini to get Amazon to think openly about what its Alexa devices looked like. Consequently, the third generation Echo Dot trends in all-plastic sides of its previous versions for the cloth-covered finish. The more rounded and softer edges, the Echo Dot looks less of a hockey puck and more like something you would appreciate having in your living room.
The top is ringed with LED that light up when Alexa is listening. There are two buttons; one to activate Alexa and another one to turn the mic on and off. As we mentioned, the third version is pretty much larger than the previous ones and is available in three colors; Sandstone white, heather gray, and charcoal. One minor improvement with the third generation is that it supports 802.11ac Wi-fi while its predecessor supported 802.11n.
Audio Quality: You can all relate with the torturous experience with the second generation’s audio. However, the new version is quite improved with fuller bass and louder in all aspects. The vocals are great though increasing or decreasing the treble will give a better experience. There is a spectacular feature rolling out to all Echos, whereby you ask Alexa to adjust the equalizer or set the bass. For instance, you just need to say; Alexa, “reset the equalizer” or “Alexa set the bass to maximum” While you may not notice any considerable difference on the Dot, the effect should be evident in other devices.
The Fine Print on the Amazon Echo Dot 3rd Generation
Like we mentioned above, the second generation had a terrible speaker, but Amazon fixed that in the new Echo Dot and it is actually worth listening to. The device has a better look, clearer and louder which just points the vast improvement of the version. You can let Alexa do everything for you just like other Alexa-enabled devices.
For $49 it is quite economical and a most affordable way of setting up your smart home with an Alexa-enable device. To nitpick, you can no longer add a cover to Dot’s exterior to change the look. To be honest the Echo Dot is not really meant to be seen but to hear you. And hear you she will with improved voice recognition and an ever-growing list of skills.
