Prevent flooding in your home and protect your prized and treasured possessions with this Smart Water Leak Sensor from Samsung. This smart device detects leaks and notifies you before they become a flood in your house.
Have you ever had your home flooded with water due to a faulty washing machine, pipe, faucet, or because the kids decided to play swim in the bathroom? Or would you like to prevent your house from such flooding, and from destroying your precious furnishings and equipment?
From Samsung, a leading manufacturer of reliable and home equipment and accessories, comes the Samsung SmartThings Water Leak Sensor. This smart device is designed to notify you at the very fight sign of water leakage when placed in areas of concern in your home.
Design of the Samsung SmartThings Water Leak Sensor
The Samsung SmartThings Water Leak Sensor is a small, rectangular-shaped, white, plastic box measuring 2.3 inches x 1.5 inches x 0.9 inches and weighing 1.6 ounces. It comes in a box by itself, with one Lithium Manganese Dioxide battery (CR123A) that last for 17,520 hours (i.e., about 2 – 3 years) of operation, setup instructions, and safety and health manual.
This Smart Water Leak Sensor requires the Samsung SmartThings Hub to work. The SmartThings Hub is Samsung’s Wireless Control Center for all compatible smart devices in your home.
The device has sensor contacts on its top and bottom that allows it to detect water leaks dropping from above or arising from beneath. Both the top and bottom sensors can detect humidity and do not require a pool of water to bridge the sensors to detect leakages.
The SmartThings Water Leak Sensor is designed for indoor use only and works on Zigbee protocol both on Wi-Fi and data link. It operates within a temperature range of 32°F to 104°F and has an indoor range of 150 and a working range of 50 feet to 130 feet. Samsung offers a one-year warranty on parts and labor.
Features of the Samsung SmartThings Water Leak Sensor
Installation
The smart leak sensor is simple and straightforward to install. However, you need to have the Samsung SmartThings Hub installed and running before you can use the Leak Sensor. Once you have the Hub in place and working, remove the back cover on the Sensor, peel off the plastic tab on the battery and re-insert. The device comes on and pairs itself with the Hub. You then complete other configurations on the Samsung App.
Intelligent Water Detection
How does this device detect water leaks? If the device waits till there is a pool of water before it alerts you, then that will be too late. There is a difference between a leak sensor and a flood sensor. When water leaks – be it a drop, a spill, or splash, there is a change in the atmosphere’s humidity. The Samsung Smart Leak Sensor detects changes in moisture and temperature. This feature makes it smart and efficient to warn you about a leakage before it becomes a catastrophic flood in your home.
Samsung App Control
The Samsung SmartThings mobile app serves as a single Control Center for all Samsung’s smart devices and other compatible devices within your home. Through the App, you can connect, manage, and automate a wide variety of Samsung’s and other compatible smart devices. The App is free and is available for iOS and Android devices. You can also use Bixby, Samsung’s voice assistant, to control your smart devices using voice through the Samsung App.
Instant Alerts
With the Smart Water Leak Sensor, you can prevent that leak from becoming a flood by receiving instant alerts when a leak is detected. Notifications are sent to your phone through the SmartThings mobile app by push notifications. If you added your mobile number when setting up the App, then you can also receive a text warning message on your mobile device.
Smart Connectivity & Integration
Connecting the SmartThings Water Leak Sensor to Samsung’s SmartThings Hub opens your home to a wide range of smart possibilities. The SmartThings Hub not only provides Wi-Fi within your home but also connects all smart devices in one master control center. Detecting a leak means, for example, the Hub can turn off some other smart devices to avoid power shortage. The Hub can also flash smart floodlights or trigger the smart siren/alarm where such is present.
Versatile Connectivity
You can receive alerts through email and connect with other devices not compatible with SmartThings using IFTTT.
The Final Verdict On The Samsung SmartThings Water Leak Sensor
Water leakages can and do happen in our homes when and where we least expect them. It is an event better imagined than experienced. This functional Samsung’s SmartThings Water Leak Sensor is an ideal leak and flood prevention tool for your house. The only snag in this device is that it requires the Samsung SmartThings Hub to function. Considering that more and more home equipment and accessories are becoming smart and compatible with the Samsung SmartThings Hub, getting one might not be a bad idea.
The SmartThings Water Leak Sensor is affordable, easy to install, and functions well by preventing leaks within your home, saving your worries and money.

“Ok. This thing officially saved my behind. Had a small hot water leak, but not big enough to notice right away due to hot water still coming out of the pipes. It would have filled my basement had I not been notified via SmartThings. This has now paid for itself. The mess and potential permanent damage it saved me.” – Joseph maldonado on March 6, 2018
“This was an addition to our SmartThings setup as insisted by my wife, for under the dishwasher. We installed it last week. Yesterday we got an alert on our phone while away from home of a water leak…at the dishwasher. I was really hoping it was a false alarm, but it was not. There was a very small leak at the front left of the dishwasher. This is not the first time a SmartThings device as saved the day, and I am sure won’t be the last.” – E. Rylant on June 3, 2018
