SmartThings Has Come A Long Way From Its Kickstarter Days. But Has A Ways To Go To Earn Consumer Trust.
SmartThings by Samsung has come a long way since its Kickstarter days. While Google and Amazon are yet to have a first-party smart TV and Fridge, Samsung already has it along with Bixby, its voice assistant. The SmartThings app can automatically sense new devices and add them in.
Ask Bixby to show you the inside of the fridge and it pulls up a real-time view of what’s there via built-in cameras.
By using this feature, you can save energy and look at the ingredient you already have without opening the door. It also supports integrations with multiple music services. You can also watch your doorbell’s live video feed on your fridge itself.
The Q6 Series TV allows the user to use the Samsung TV remote to control their SmartThings devices. While the app still needs work, it is simpler to use than the TV remote.
One issue with this is that the SmartThings devices don’t always show up on the TV app. You can use the mirroring function to pull what you are watching on the TV on your fridge and vice-versa. While it has come a long way, SmartThings needs more work before it can be used as a whole-home setup.
