Sonos’ Filing With The FCC Marks Shows For A New Smart Speaker, But Its Primary Use Remains Unknown.
Sonos is working on a smaller speaker. While not a lot of details about it are available, it looks like it could be part of a new surround-sound system for its Playbar. It is Sonos’ wireless home theater soundbar. The S18 lets the user communicate with the speaker from the far corner of a room thanks to the far-field voice controls.
That could give the Playbar more functionality since it doesn’t currently support voice controls or have Bluetooth connectivity, and a diagram in the filing positions it to the right of the master device in a setup that would be similar to a surround-sound system.
Far-field voice control has sound-canceling technology that helps in activating the speaker despite background noise. The new speaker could be a combination of Sonos Play:1 and an Echo Dot.
Sonos’ price tag is usually high because of their premium quality products. However, lately, the company has tried to price its devices to attract a wider market. Amazon is also trying to capture the market by manufacturing a range of products designed to attract the audiophiles.
Some devices include the Echo Link and Link Amp, the Echo Sub subwoofer, and Echo Input. While there is little chance that Sonos speaker will be as inexpensive as the Amazon and Google ones, what we do know is that it would be of the best quality.
