The COVID-19 Pandemic Sees An Emerging New Trend With Smart Homes
Ever since the pandemic started, people have been forced to stay indoors. The last year has been a tough one with travel bans and other restrictions across the world. The adoption of smart home, on the other hand, has been positive and the sales have kept rising. A recent survey concluded that households with at least one smart home device grew over the period of the pandemic as well.
At the end of 2020, four in 10 homes had at least one remotely monitored connected device, and about a third of homes had at least one smart home device.
Drilling down further into the hottest smart home devices purchased over the last year – smart lights top the list. This was inevitable as this is one of the easiest devices that can be installed. Security systems also saw a boost in sales during the pandemic due to the unrest caused by a rise in white nationalism and far-right rhetoric, as well as concerns over Black Lives Matter protests.
