Thread And Its Adoption By Tech Giants Into Their Smart Devices
Thread, the latest smart device protocol, has been around for years. Now, most smart home device manufacturers are leaning towards it due to the various benefits it provides. Thread has been based on device radios that use the 802.15.4 protocol. It has the power of transmitting data on low power and runs on a mesh network. It can support about 250 simultaneous connected devices. With Thread, no single points of failure are expected. The biggest 4 tech giants – Amazon, Apple, Google and Samsung – have promised that they will be adopting Thread into their devices very soon.
The early adopters of this technology are Amazon’s Eero 6 Pro mesh routers, Google Nest WiFi units, and the Google Nest Hub Max.
So does Apple’s HomePod mini: It can be that hub for Thread devices, using its own Wi-Fi connection to get Thread device data out to the internet for remote access and monitoring.
