What Do You Use Your Virtual Assistant For? The Average Smart Speaker Owner Are Not Using Them To Control Smart Devices.
According to a survey by Adobe Analytics, it is suggested that about 32% of the public are the proud owners of a smart speaker like Google Home or Amazon Echo. And the figure is set to increase to 50% by the year-end. According to the same survey, it is revealed that the most common functions are to ask about the weather and listen to some music. This is followed closely by using these smart speakers to make calls.
Some of the respondents said that they use them for shopping, checking the traffic, and requesting food delivery. While shopping has not yet become a common use for smart speakers, there are some out there who search for products with help from their voice assistants. They use it for product search, make shopping lists, and price comparisons.
These functions are powered by Alexa on Amazon devices, and Google Assistant on Google’s speakers. Both voice assistants are bolstered by software, similar to apps, that gives them more capabilities.
The third-party developed apps on Echo devices are called “skills” while the same on Google Home devices are called “actions”. Over 40,000 skills are available with Alexa devices while there are more than a million available with Google Home devices.
