What’s Your Theme Song? Sonos Can Play It As You Enter Your Home. And Other Super Cool Things With The Help Of IFTTT.
Sonos states last month that they would open up their API to third-party firms. It has started off by working with IFTTT. Using IFTTT you can automate your home appliances like thermostats, lights, and locks to achieve more options.
For instance, you can have Sonos play your radio station of choice when you unlock your door, program Hue light colors to playlists, or play a specific song when your Dominoes pizza goes out for delivery (like, I don’t know, William Tell Overture).
Some basic functions of Sonos that work with IFTTT are mute/volume controls, playback control, and pause/resume/next/previous controls. It also lets one play pre-defined songs, albums, and playlists. In order to create the IFTTT applets, one will have to make use of the action command control.
Sonos has said that they are working on many more features which will be released shortly. Google Assistant integration is one of the major ones. As IFTTT is currently in beta, it looks like many additional features will be added before the released. One thing to note here is that Sonos cannot be used to trigger alarm devices or other similar home appliances since it works solely with actions.
