Wireless Power Is No Longer Science Fiction, Wi-Charge Providing Long-Range Power To Smart Home Devices
Many smart home builders are now facing the issue of powering their devices. This includes replacing batteries, remembering to charge them, or having to install new power outlets. In a bid to solve this problem, Wi-Charge, a long-range wireless power company, held a demonstrative to show how devices can be powered without batteries or wires. Wi-Charge is working with Alarm.com and Allegion to work out how an alarm system and a smart lock can be powered via long-range wireless technology.
Currently, the technology is still in the prototype stage. It uses invisible and harmless IR light to power devices. These beams are effective to an area of about 250 square feet.
The technology works by beaming the light from a transmitter fitted to s regular power outlet; this light is then captured by receivers, which can be embedded into mobile devices, or connected to an existing charging port.
This has been approved by the FDA and it also passes the International safety standards. It can be used to power all smart home devices.
